  • Beyond the Margin - November 29, 2013 - Charleston, WV

Apartment Earth and GoodNews Mountaineer Garage are planning a two-part event, Beyond the Margin, curated by Nik Botkin and Emma Fisher for November’s Art Walk. The event will feature live art-making and a contemporary art exhibition. Botkin and Fisher have invited 15+ artists whose voices have traditionally been excluded from the fine art world. Whether it is the art form, such as tattoo and street art, or a part of the artist’s identity, be it race, sexual orientation or gender, Botkin and Fisher will showcase a collection of artists who have been historically relegated to the margins.

In the Apartment Earth space, visitors will find street and tattoo artists from Artistic Creations Custom Tattoos and Piercingss, Black Eagle Tattoo, and Bent Schraders' Tattoo Shop collaborating on a series of artworks live – a rare opportunity to see each artist’s creation process in person. Some of the artists involved include Drew O'Neill, Matthew Graham, Tra Walker, Tim Parsley, Prestons, ONER, Tyrone Scott and Michael Parsley. They will be accompanied by Kevin Crump, Alasha Al-Qudwah, Adrian DeQuiros and David Stephenson of Snakebox performing live music.

In the Good News Garage space, artists participating in the live painting and others will exhibit work. The artists will showcase art in a variety of media, including painting, photography and video.
